Full Licences Explained

Motorcycle licencing progresses through stages: A1 at 17 (up to 125cc), A2 at 19 (up to 47bhp), and Full A at 24. Direct access is available for those 24 or older, or A2 holders aged 21 and above.

This tiered system encourages gradual skill development, ensuring riders gain experience before accessing higher-powered motorcycles. Each stage requires passing both theory and practical tests, fostering a responsible and capable riding ability. It’s a progressive approach that prioritises safety and competency on the road.

A2 – Restricted Direct Access

This leads to 35kw or 47bhp Licence. This is for people who are 19 or over. The course starts on a 125cc machine, progressing to one of our 500cc machines for the duration of your training. This will bring you up to the high standard of riding which is required for your pursuit test on the 500cc machine.

Direct Access

This leads to an unlimited cc Licence. This is for people who are over 24 or more than 2 years experience with restricted direct access licence. The course starts on a 125cc machine, progressing to one of our 600 or 650cc machines for the duration of your training. This will bring you up to the high standard of riding which is required for your pursuit test on the larger machine.
